Barn alone = Scary

I went to the barn last night and it was QUIET. So quiet it was creepy. I know a lot of people would kill for some alone time at the barn. I on the other hand like having others around just in case.

Gracie has been biting at her blanket on the right side so last night i took her blanket off and check it for burrs or something that could be bothering her but found nothing so since the weather is supposed to be good the next few days I put on her show/travel blanket to see if that helped. It didn't. She was still biting at her right flank. Any ideas on what her issue could be with the blankets? I would just take it off but she's had it on all winter and I worry she wouldn't have a warm enough natural winter coat..

Anyway I'm sitting here watching my youngest teach herself how to mount her rocking horse. I think it runs in the blood.
I'm having some serious issues with my oldest daughter, she's only 11 and I'm scared to death of what's going to happen the older she gets with the stunts she's been pulling this week. God help us all.

I hope you all have had good horsie time this week. I went to watch the Drill practice again this week. That was a lot of fun. I really want to do it someday. It really looks like a blast to do. My BBFF did it with the rest of the gals this week and her pony Rocked it!

Horses are smart...

What would you do?

I'm going to make a list of pro's and con's about trading Grace for a horse that is able to ride now. I've been tossing it around for a while now...and I still don't know what to do. So I'm going to do what my mom told me to do when deliberating important decisions...here goes.

Pros
Getting a horse that can ride now.
Getting Grace into a competitive show home (hopefully) her pedigree and confirmation deserve it.
Being able to ride now. (oh did I say that already)
I won't kill myself trying to break her out.


Cons
Getting a horse of lesser quality. (trading quality for training)
Grace is Sweepstakes Nominated but really what does that mean to me?
Grace and I are pretty bonded. A joy of the Arab breed.
Grace is a Healthy horse great feet...not knowing what you'd be getting is a crap shoot.
I love Grace
I would miss Grace

So there you go. I don' know what to do I think Grace is too good of a horse for me. With me she will never go to her full potential. Maybe I'm just having an off day because I adore her. But in reality it's true she's too good for me.

This is one of the kindest things I've ever experienced.. I have no way to know who sent it, but there is a beautiful soul working in the dead letter office of the US postal service





Our 14 year old dog, Abbey, died last month. The day after she died, my 4 year old daughter Meredith was crying and talking about how much she missed Abbey. She asked if we could write a letter to God so that when Abbey got to heaven, God would recognize her. I told her that I thought we could so she dictated these words:


Dear God,


Will you please take care of my dog? She died yesterday and is with you in heaven. I miss her very much. I am happy that you let me have her as my dog even though she got sick.


I hope you will play with her. She likes to play with balls and to swim. I am sending a picture of her so when you see her. You will know that she is my dog. I really miss her.


Love, Meredith.


We put the letter in an envelope with a picture of Abbey and Meredith.ND addressed it to God/Heaven. We put our return address on it. Then Meredith pasted several stamps on the front of the envelope because she said it would take lots of stamps to get the letter all the way to heaven. That afternoon she dropped it into the letter box at the post office. A few days later, she asked if God had gotten the letter yet. I told her that I thought He had.


Yesterday, there was a package wrapped in gold paper on our front porch addressed, `To Meredith,' in an unfamiliar hand. Meredith opened it. Inside was a book by Mr. Rogers called, 'When a Pet Dies.' Taped to the inside front cover was the letter we had written to God in its opened envelope. On the opposite page was the picture of Abbey & Meredith and this note:


Dear Meredith,


Abbey arrived safely in heaven.


Having the picture was a big help. I recognized Abbey right away.


Abbey isn't sick anymore. Her spirit is here with me just like it stays in your heart. Abbey loved being your dog. Since we don't need our bodies in heaven, I don't have any pockets to keep your picture in, so I am sending it back to you in this little book for you to keep and have something to remember Abbey by.


Thank you for the beautiful letter and thank your mother for helping you write it and sending it to me. What a wonderful mother you have. I picked her especially for you.


I send my blessings every day and remember that I love you very much.


By the way, I'm easy to find, I am wherever there is love.

Parelii....so confused

I really must do some research on the age old question of what training technique works best. My BO is a die hard Parelli fan. She's been helping me with Grace and doing the level 1 games.

So tonight we are working on the friendly game...she's doing great. Standing while the whip whirls around her...doing great no flinch...all fantastic. Look at me, pretty dang good I think. So good that now I can't get her to move out, at all. ( Doh! we had just gotten her doing REALLY well off of hand movement and sometimes a little help from the whip) and now...nothing. So again I'm not overly familiar with the techniques ect so when I asked BO what the heck do I do now. She comes out with 'the' Parelii lead rope and carrot stick...and then proceeds to show me how you smack the horses on the shoulder to get them moving...I'm like WHAT? I just spent an hour getting her to not be afraid of the whip, and stand while I whip it around her, and you're going to smack her with it? Head Spinning...

I guess I just don't get it....please someone help me out here...I'm sure it works but I'm just not understanding how.

Tonight we worked with the bit in for most of the time we were in the arena...she's doing great with that. She's also standing tied pretty well. So all in all a good evening at Da Barn.
